Ose Atsu & Ose Panin
The identical twin rulers of Akrivel and the Leopard Clan. They granted the party an audience before the welcoming feast, asked them hard questions, and issued a challenge that Theo met. Their clan fought at the Fortress of Sorrow. One of the two still governs.
The twins are not interchangeable, though they look it. Their mother came from the Heart Clan; through her they carry lineage outside the Leopard Clan's primary line, which is not unusual for Ekujae rulers and is not something they explain to outsiders. They rule together. The clan does not divide between them.
Ose Panin wears patterned green cloth and copper jewelry set with uncut gems. Ose Atsu wears dark blue with amulets wrapped in copper and green cloth. Both have black leather sandals decorated with copper amulets, and both wear their hair in long, thick locks. Up close, the clothing is the fastest way to tell them apart. From a distance or in bad light, it isn't.
The Audience
They requested the party before the welcoming feast, not after. The distinction matters: it was an assessment, not a celebration. The platform where they received visitors was plain, functional, no ceremony beyond the fact of the meeting itself. Their opening line — "We are Ose Panin and Ose Atsu of the Leopard Clan. Our mother is of the Heart Clan." — established kinship and context in one breath, told the party who they were dealing with, and moved on.
The questions they asked were not polite. They wanted to know what each party member considered important, what they were proud of, who their people were. These are not small questions and they were not treated as small. The twins listened with the attention of people who had learned over time that what someone says about themselves when asked directly is more useful than what they can be tricked into revealing.
When the party answered, Ose Panin asked each of them to demonstrate something they had claimed pride in. Ose Panin threw clay targets for those who wanted to show combat. Ose Atsu offered himself as a challenge for those who impressed particularly — a single nonlethal Strike against AC 25, or a DC 25 skill check. Theo accepted.
The Shifting Striking Cold Iron Dagger that changed hands after is somewhere in the party's gear.
The Clan at War
The Leopard Clan's relationship with the party shifted from cautious to allied across the course of Book 2. By the time the party returned to Akrivel before the final assault, the relationship had accumulated enough weight that the war council — Nketiah, Jahsi, Ose Atsu and Ose Panin — was a genuine strategic meeting, not a diplomatic performance.
The twins understood what the party was proposing and what it would cost. They committed Ekujae forces anyway. The clan's casualties at the Fortress of Sorrow were real, and the most significant one — Nketiah — cut deeper than the twins showed in the immediate aftermath.
Both survived the assault.
Voice
They speak as a unit in formal contexts, taking over from each other mid-sentence when the other has made their point, which can be disorienting for outsiders who expect separate addressees. In private conversation they separate more naturally. Ose Panin tends toward precise, comparative assessments. Ose Atsu tends toward the direct challenge, the test that settles a question faster than discussion would.
Neither is warm in the way Nketiah was warm. They are not cold either. They are evaluating, in the way that someone who is responsible for the survival of their people cannot stop being.
